Day 1 SUNDAY (A D S) - Depart your home.
Grafton is located in the Sub Tropical Region of Northern NSW. Approx 630 kms north of Sydney or approx 350 kms south of Brisbane. You have many choices for travel to Grafton. You may wish to drive your car. The Pacific M1/A1 motorway is a great option from either direction. About 8 hours drive north from Sydney or 4 hours south of Brisbane. NSW Trains offer fine rail and coach connections from Brisbane or Sydney. Pensioners can receive FREE RAIL TRAVEL. Another alternative is Greyhound Coaches. Attached to this flyer are timetable details. When you arrive at Hilldrop on the Sunday you will receive a warm welcome and a delicious evening meal before retiring to bed on your first night at Hilldrop.
Day 2 MONDAY (A D B T) - Yamba and Iluka.
We begin the day with a hearty hot breakfast and depart the motel approx 9am for our first day exploring the valley. Your driver will deliver an interesting and informative commentary throughout the day. Motoring north east we trace the path of the mighty Clarence as it meanders to the sea. Along the way you will enjoy lovely scenery as we pass through sugar fields, dairy herds, beef cattle as well as historic villages and remnants of times gone past. We soon arrive in Yamba and enjoy a complimentary morning tea overlooking Yamba main beach. Following an exploration of Yamba we head for Yamba Bay and board the Clarence River Ferry for a lovely journey of about 30 minutes across the Clarence to Iluka where we will enjoy lunch at Sedgers Reef Hotel (own expense ). After lunch be wind our way back to Grafton via a local cane farm and interesting visit to model train exhibit at Harwood. Another stop on the way home is Ferry Park visitor centre with a chance to pick up a souvenir of your day.
Day 3 TUESDAY (A D B T) - Grafton City and Maclean.
It’s time to explore the first City on the North Coast, historic Grafton. Established in 1885 Grafton City features wide tree lined streets, graceful old buildings and it’s one of Australia’s most beautiful rural cities. During the morning you will visit a cattle auction, historic Schaefer House museum, Christ Church Cathedral, watch jewellery made at the lapidary club, enjoy morning tea in beautiful See Park, drive down the spectacular Fig Tree Avenue and lots more. We will break for lunch in Grafton Shopping world and then resume our sightseeing with a lovely drive through Southgate and Lawrence as we head for the Scottish Capital of Australia, Maclean. This beautiful town is located on the banks of the mighty Clarence River and provides a strong Scottish influence with many Scottish Tartans displayed on telegraph poles. Scottish Cain and breathtaking scenic views from the Maclean lookout. We will have a short break in the town centre then retrace our path to Grafton via a really lovely drive through Woodford Island, the largest river island in the southern hemisphere.
Day 4 WEDNESDAY (A D B T) Scenic Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga.
What a great day lays ahead as we motor south to Woolgoolga and take in breathtaking views from the Woolgoolga headland lookout. Following a short break for complimentary morning tea we head for the Clog Barn where you will be entertained by our host making Dutch Clogs before your eyes then it’s into the miniature Dutch Village before we continue our exploration of Coffs Harbour Jetty and Botanical Gardens. We break for lunch at the Palms Centre then commence our return to Grafton via the famous Big Banana, then drive through Banana Plantations as we continue through the Wedding Bell forest drive to Nana Glen where you will visit Two Tails winery for a tasting and talk on wine.
Day 5 THURSDAY (A D B T) - World Heritage Washpool and the Gibralter Range.
A wonderful day to explore the world famous Washpool National Park from the comfort of your scenic tour bus. You will enjoy fabulous scenery as you drive through the scenic Mann River Valley then wind your way to the summit of the range. We motor deep into the wilderness area where we enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. You may choose to enjoy a 15 minute walk into the canopy of the rainforest. Re boarding the bus we head for Raspberry lookout and Boundary Creek Falls. We return to Grafton with a slight detour into the Mann River Crossing near Cangai. What a great day out.
Day 6 FRIDAY (B S) Time to return home.
